My Willow Heart

Today’s story is written by the amazing Chloe. Here’s a little about her and her cat Willow before we get stuck into her pet story.

My name is Chloe and I run a blog about mental health, eating disorder recovery and wellness. I’m from the north of Ireland and have been blogging over on Nyxie’x Nook for just under 3 months now. I love all animals but my my cat wins, hands down! Animals are such therapy, and love us far more than people ever could. Everyone says that their pet is perfect, the joy in that being that no one is wrong.

Will is a long haired tortoise shell cat that my partner and I adopted in September 2018. We’re not sure of her age or origins, we’re guessing she’s between 5-7 years old, and all we know is that she spent 4 years in the shelter.

She’s a lazy cat as far as cats go. We’ve tried playing with her with numerous toys but she prefers to sleep or watch birds that actually do much moving. Jackson Galaxy once said that every cat plays, you just need to find what they love, well Willow loves to sleep! And there’s just no way we’re changing that.

My partner and I had wanted a pet for some time after purchasing our first home in May 2019. A dog was too much work and honestly I wouldn’t be able to give a dog the attention they need. I would feel bad that he or she would be inside all day and if outside additional fencing would have been needed.

We took drive up to the local animal shelter on the 8th of September 2018 (my birthday), and had a look at what they had to offer.

We never intended to find a pet that day. It had been a bad day and I just wanted to see animals to help me calm down. We stepped into the cattery side of the shelter and almost immediately willow was pawing at the window on her door.

We stepped into the room (to this day we aren’t sure if we were meant to, but oh well) and Willow was rubbing herself around our ankles and sniffing our faces. When her room mate (Pixie) came over for a cuddle she quickly shooed her away with the swipe of her paw. We knew then and there that she was ours. My partner went and spoke to the coordinator of the shelter later that week, we had a quick home visit and on the 18th of September, Willow came to her forever home!

Now Willow is very much the queen of the house. She not only buts us awake at 6am (or earlier) every morning for food, but she also takes great pleasure in leading us downstairs or into the kitchen all day, everyday.

I was never really a cat person, although I admired them from afar, but since bringing Willow home I have become a full blown cat lady, in love with all the furry felines of the world.

Willow has her very own segment every Wednesday on Chloe’s Facebook Page, Twitter and Instagram! If you’d like to follow Chloe on twitter click on her username ‘ @nyxiesnook and you’ll be directed to her twitter account!

*I just want to remind people that they should go to a shelter instead of buying because there are so many cats and dogs that need homes!

^ Chloe also wanted me to add a little message, which I personally back up 100%.

  1. Willow is a beautiful cat, and she sounds just like my cat Lizzie! She’s also a rescue cat, about 7 years old, and she sleeps almost all day apart from when she wakes up to ask for food! We try to get her to play but it’s hard work!

    • Willow does seem to be such a lovely little kitty! From what I’ve learnt cats are unpredictable creatures with unpredictable personalities, it’s what makes them so loveable!🥰
